MENDIP DOG WALKING
& PET SERVICES

Welcome

Mendip Dog Walking is run by a local family business which provides your dog with full exercise in the fabulous Mendip area. Based in Churchill, our service currently covers an approximate 5 mile radius including Yatton, Congresbury, Blagdon, Churchill, Langford, Wrington, Cleeve, Banwell, Winscombe, Sandford, Shipham, and Claverham.

Your dog will be picked up from your home and taken for a terrific walk (on or off the lead depending on your preference) which is guaranteed to give them the time of their lives!

Standard Walks are for 45 mins (or we can agree a duration with yourself to suit your dog) - any travelling to and from the walk venue is excluded from this period so you can be assured your dog benefits to the full from their exercise time.

Our vehicle is equipped with cages and air conditioning and we are fully insured and security checked so your dog will be in very safe hands. We will also towel dry your dog and top up their water bowl upon their return.

Here's Andy's story:

Dogs have been a huge part of my life ever since I can remember and bring such joy and love to people’s lives. After 20 years working in a corporate environment, sat behind a desk, I finally plucked up the courage to turn my love of dogs into my own business, and so Mendip Dog Walking came into being in 2017.

Here are a few pictures of the dogs whose lives I have been lucky enough to share.

Major

That’s me in the boot with Major! An amazing Labrador, he came into our lives as a stray in 1975 after having been very badly mistreated. Despite this, his temperament was incredible and he was full of life and adored the family almost as much as he loved diving into the nearest available water!

Harvey

So intelligent he wore glasses (!), Harvey was a West Highland Terrier who had a very endearing personality. He was the opposite of Major in that he did not like water at all! Full of the normal Westie traits of liveliness, curiosity, spirit and robustness, he was a very dear family member.

Max & Toby

Max and Toby – AKA ‘the boys’. I had Max since he was a puppy and he was my constant companion and friend. Max was a Labrador cross whose love of food led to lots of incidents over the years! We had to make many kitchens ‘Max proof’ as seemingly he was capable of becoming Spiderman as soon as he thought the coast was clear. He had an amazing ability to make people laugh by waggling his eyebrows and being able to give them a high five and a high ten – he got away with murder because he was so lovable!

Toby, a dachshund cross, was a rescue dog who become inseparable from Max (as you can see!). Max’s partner in crime, Toby was a very loving dog, but because of his past, he required very responsible dog ownership when out of the house – so I am well versed in the needs of difficult dogs.

Raffi

A very new family member, Raffi is a cocker spaniel. She was 15 months old when she joined us, and her previous owner did a fantastic job with her because she is very obedient. She loves attention and is one of the most loving dogs I have ever met. She is proving very popular on our walks because she is so sweet, and she is excellent with other dogs. Raffi will play a key role in integrating your dog into our group should you decide to let your dog socialise through a group walk.

Helen

Helen is Andy's wife and currently helps out on weekends. Helen is of course a dog lover too having grown up with Sam (a wonderful dog of the  'Heinz 57' type!) and is the very proud mum of Raffi.

A great week! It was fab to see some of our original furry friends again in Jarvis and Lottie - been a long time guys! And please say a huge hello to our latest FF the charming Mindy Moo! A very successful first walk with her today. In the other photos, Bentley and I enjoy a beautiful sun rise, and a drinking trough was made good use of by the gang. Not forgetting your Friday gag - here it is:

Things really are getting back to normal as we learn to live with COVID. My local pub held its first quiz since before the pandemic. It’s a bit of a rough place mind, the first quiz question was ‘what the hell are you looking at?’

Your Friday photos and your Friday gag (submitted by a special guest this week!). In the photos - a great week, new friends, old friends and nice weather. Please say a big hello to the marvellous Max! A gorgeous young fox red lab, he was an utter delight to walk. It was a short term assignment, but we hope to see him occasionally in the future. Our old friend Bentley the Rotti made a welcome return, we’ve missed him! Early morning walks around the reservoir are great with the big guy! In the other photos, the gang had their usual whale of a time, the cooler weather meant mucho chasing (especially Raffi and Gus 😀). To the gag, and Max’s mum Dawn has this classic for your pleasure!

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles,
has passed away."

The distressed woman wailed,
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied
the vet..

"How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later
with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked onin amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and
shook his head.

The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also
delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat satback on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."

The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman..

The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"

The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150

Have a great weekend all 😀
